Welcome to the main entryway of the Ashbel Woodward Museum. The landscape you see today looks quite different than it did during Dr. Woodward’s time in the 19th century. Originally, a series of working sheds were structurally connected directly to this side of the main house. Additionally, the lower level of the home—now a stable foundation—served as the busy "summer kitchen," keeping the intense heat of cooking away from the main living quarters during the warm Connecticut months.
Today, this transition space is celebrated with a thoughtfully curated selection of historically significant plantings that thrive against the old stone and timber.
