Special Group Tours are now available
The Ashbel Woodward Museum and the Franklin Historical Society are entirely volunteer-run. It takes a passionate community to bring our history to life, and we are always looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team! Whether you want to work behind the scenes or interact with the public, we have a meaningful project for you.
Collection Digitization & Archives: Help us preserve history for the digital age! We are actively looking for volunteers to assist in scanning, documenting, and archiving our physical collections. Basic computer familiarity is encouraged, and full training on our specific software programs will be provided.
The Friends Group ("Working Volunteers"): We are actively looking to grow the Friends of Franklin's Heritage Sites. The Friends are the boots on the ground making our museum goals a reality. Roles are endless and include serving as museum docents (tour guides), historical reenactors, event assistants, and archive helpers. (Note: Franklin residency is not required!)
Teen Volunteer Program: We offer a fantastic historical program for teenagers, allowing them to complete and document their required community service hours in a unique, engaging setting.
Give What You Can: Your time is incredibly valuable, and we appreciate any support you can offer. Volunteer hours are highly flexible depending on the activity. You never have to commit to a full shift—just give whatever time you are able to spare!
Because our collections are housed in a historic 19th-century homestead, volunteers for archival and physical museum projects should be comfortable climbing narrow stairs and lifting boxes.
We look forward to hearing from you, and positions will remain open until filled. If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering, please get in touch:
